Undeterred Terms and Conditions
Effective date: August 28, 2026
These Terms and Conditions apply to Undeterred browser extensions, mobile and desktop apps, websites, account and partner portals, and related paid accountability services provided by Prodigal Org, doing business as Prodigal.org.
1. Agreement to these Terms
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and Prodigal Org, a Texas nonprofit organization recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, doing business as Prodigal.org (“Prodigal,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). They govern your use of Undeterred browser extensions, mobile and desktop apps, and related websites, accounts, subscriptions, accountability features, communications, and services (collectively, the “Service”).
By installing or using the Service, creating an account, accepting an accountability-partner invitation, or purchasing a subscription, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge the separate Privacy Policy and, where applicable, the Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
If you use the free extension without creating an account, the provisions that reasonably apply to local blocking and extension use still apply to you.
2. Eligibility and permitted users
2.1 Adults and United States residents only
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use paid accountability features. Accounts and paid accountability features are offered only to people who reside in the United States. By creating an account, you represent that you are at least 18 years old, reside in the United States, and are legally able to enter into these Terms.
The free, local blocking features may technically function elsewhere, but we do not offer accounts or paid accountability services to residents of other countries at this time.
2.2 Self-directed use only
The Service is designed for an adult who voluntarily installs and uses it to support their own choices. You may not secretly install or use the Service to monitor another person. You may not connect paid accountability features to a browser profile regularly used by another person unless that person has given informed consent to the monitoring and disclosure described in these Terms and the Privacy Policy.
You may not use the Service for parent-child monitoring, employee monitoring, spousal surveillance, or any other third-party surveillance. Those uses are outside the design and permitted purpose of the Service.
3. The Service
3.1 Free protection
The free extension applies browser-level blocking rules, local page and URL scanning, optional social-media blocking, custom block-list rules, and safer search behavior where supported. The free extension does not require an account. Its blocking configuration and custom list are stored locally in the browser.
3.2 Paid accountability
Paid accountability belongs to one account. You may create an account, purchase a subscription, and invite an accountability partner before connecting a browser. The same account may be connected to multiple supported browser and app installations, including supported Chrome, Edge, and Safari extensions and mobile or desktop companion apps. Available protection and reporting differ by operating system, version, permissions, and settings; installing one component does not establish protection on every browser or device. A paid account may invite up to two accountability partners at a time.
Paid accountability sends limited information about flagged activity and browser protection status to Prodigal and makes specified information available to active accountability partners. Where supported, paid users may proceed past a blocked page only while their subscription is active and at least one accountability partner is active. Some protection layers do not offer a proceed control. A proceed event is disclosed to active partners. A subscription by itself does not guarantee that proceed is available; browser connection and active-partner requirements also apply.
3.3 What is disclosed in paid accountability
When paid accountability is connected, the Service may record each page that the extension blocks, whether or not you choose to proceed. This includes pages blocked by explicit-content rules, optional social-media rules, and your custom block list. A reported URL may include the domain, path, permitted query parameters, submitted search terms, or other information placed in the URL by a website. Redaction is designed to remove credentials, fragments, tracking parameters, and recognizable private tokens, but cannot guarantee removal of every sensitive detail. Some mobile events provide only a domain or no address. For a blocked-page or proceed event, the Service may transmit and store:
- the reported URL or domain of the flagged page or network request, when available;
- whether the event was a block or a proceed event;
- the automated signal category, such as URL or on-screen-text signal;
- the date and time;
- browser and device labels;
- whether the event occurred in Incognito, when the extension is allowed to run there; and
- whether on-screen text was available to the local classifier, but not the matched text itself.
The Service also sends URL-free status signals used to show whether a connected browser is reporting, when it last reported, its time zone and extension version, and whether Incognito access is enabled.
Accountability emails do not include URLs or detailed activity. An active partner must sign in to see the limited activity feed and browser-status information. Partner access begins only after the partner accepts the invitation and ends when the relationship is removed, declined, expired, or otherwise deactivated. Active partners may also see recent relationship-status updates, including whether another invited partner accepted, declined, was removed, or withdrew. Those updates may identify the other partner by email address.
3.4 What the Service does not transmit
The extension scans URLs and visible page text locally. It does not transmit the text, screenshots, images, or contents of a page to Prodigal. It does not transmit unflagged browsing URLs as accountability events. General navigation information may be processed temporarily within the browser so the extension can determine which page triggered a block, but unflagged browsing is not sent to Prodigal’s accountability databases.
3.5 Mobile and desktop protection reports
Capabilities differ by operating system, app version, browser, permissions, and selected settings:
- Browser extensions, including Safari: examine URLs and available visible page text locally, apply blocking rules, and report flagged activity and available extension or private-browsing permission status when accountability is connected.
- iPhone and iPad: use the Safari extension and, when authorized, Screen Time controls. The app handles authorization and selected restriction state locally and reports available protection status, permission changes, blocked-page or proceed signals, and the URL or domain available for a supported event. Screen Time does not provide us with a complete browsing history.
- Android: uses local network filtering and, when enabled, Accessibility-based checks of supported browser or app content. Usage Access and installed-app checks can identify supported or unsupported browsers and observed launches. The app can report a blocked domain or available flagged address, detection type, browser or package name, and protection or permission changes. A network request can arise from background activity or embedded content and does not establish that a person deliberately visited or viewed a site.
- Desktop companion: checks supported browser installations, extension and private-browsing protection, observed unsupported or portable-browser activity, background monitoring, startup settings, and permissions needed for those checks. Reports can include the browser name, protection-change type, time, device label, and installation identifier.
Permissions let the installed software perform the specific checks described here; they do not give Prodigal a complete record of everything a person does on a device. Local settings, credentials, permission state, and pending accountability reports may be retained on the device to operate the Service and retry delivery when connectivity returns.
Where a supported Android app offers optional submitted-search-phrase reporting, that additional sharing requires the device-level choice described in the Privacy Policy. Mobile usage analytics and crash diagnostics are separate from accountability reports and are described in the Privacy Policy.
3.6 AI-assisted weekly summaries
We use OpenAI's API to help classify public website domains associated with recorded accountability events. We send registrable domain names and temporary reference labels. We remove URL paths, query strings, fragments, credentials, and subdomains from this request. We do not include account names, email addresses, partner details, account or installation identifiers, device labels, event times, event counts, page text, screenshots, or search phrases in the AI request.
The model returns domain categories, such as apparently explicit, generally ordinary, or uncertain. Our own software combines those classifications with recorded activity and protection signals to prepare weekly summary records and conversation prompts for the authenticated partner experience. These derived records remain associated with the accountability relationship; removing direct identifiers from the AI request does not make the records we hold anonymous.
AI assessments can be incorrect, incomplete, or outdated. They do not establish what a person viewed, why a request occurred, a person's intent, or a medical or psychological condition. A domain classification does not classify every page on that domain. Partners should review available evidence and discuss it with the monitored person.
The Privacy Policy explains the AI provider, data handling, retention, and available choices. Summary generation depends on eligible relationships, available records, service availability, and the reporting window; a summary is not guaranteed to be complete or available at a particular time.
4. Important limitations
Undeterred is a reminder and guardrail, not a guarantee.
- The Service can be disabled, uninstalled, bypassed, or circumvented.
- It may fail to block explicit content.
- It may block ordinary or non-explicit pages, including pages blocked because of a word in a URL or because of a custom or social-media rule.
- Browser limitations, extension permissions, network conditions, third-party changes, and software errors may delay or prevent blocking, reporting, or notifications.
- A block or proceed event is an automated signal, not proof of intent, misconduct, or the nature of a page.
- The Service is not counseling, medical or mental-health treatment, diagnosis, crisis support, pastoral care, or a substitute for a trusted human relationship.
You should not rely on the Service to prevent harm, guarantee abstinence, provide emergency intervention, or establish facts about another person.
5. Accounts and browser installations
You must provide accurate account information and keep it current. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password, sessions, activation links, and connected devices, and for activity under your account. Notify us promptly at accountability@prodigal.org if you believe your account or a connected installation has been compromised.
You may not share account credentials or attempt to access another person’s account or partner portal. We may require email verification, password reset, anti-bot verification, rate limits, or other reasonable security steps. We may delay or reject authentication attempts, partner invitations, or other requests that exceed product or security limits. We may revoke a browser credential or suspend access when reasonably necessary to protect the Service or its users.
You may assign a user-visible name to a connected browser. Browser and device labels are descriptive only and may not uniquely identify a physical device. You are responsible for naming and managing your connected installations.
6. Accountability partners
6.1 Invitations
You may invite only a person with whom you have an appropriate relationship and whom you reasonably expect to welcome the invitation. You represent that you are permitted to provide the person’s email address for this purpose. You may not use invitations for harassment, unsolicited marketing, or repeated unwanted contact.
6.2 Independent acceptance
An invited partner must independently accept the invitation, create or use their own account, acknowledge the partner expectations, and accept the linked Terms, Privacy Policy, and applicable disclosure versions before receiving access. A partner may decline or use the partner portal to withdraw from an individual relationship. Withdrawal immediately removes that relationship’s portal access and sends a notice to the monitored user, subject to ordinary network and email-delivery timing.
Possession of the unique invitation link sent to the invited email address may be treated as verification of access to that address and used to complete email confirmation within the invitation flow. Invitation links are security credentials and should not be forwarded or shared. A partner account is separate from any individual accountability relationship. Removing or ending one relationship revokes access to that monitored person’s information but does not necessarily delete the partner’s account, because the same account may be used for another current or future relationship. A signed-in partner with no active relationships will not have access to a monitored person’s activity.
6.3 Partner responsibilities
Partners must treat activity as a prompt for a conversation, not a verdict. Partners must protect their credentials and may not use the Service to harass, threaten, shame, discriminate against, exploit, or unlawfully monitor another person. Partners must not publish or broadly distribute information obtained through the Service. Partners must honor legally required deletion requests and must not use automated classifications or summaries as proof of misconduct, intent, or a health condition.
You choose your partners. A partner may nevertheless take screenshots, forward an email, disclose information, or fail to protect their account. Prodigal cannot control a partner’s conduct after information is lawfully made available to that partner, although we may suspend a partner account for misuse.
Partner acceptance, decline, removal, and withdrawal may be communicated to the monitored user and, where another active partner remains, to that active partner. These communications and recent relationship updates may identify the affected partner by email address but do not include flagged URLs or activity details.
7. Your authorization and consent
By deliberately activating paid accountability after receiving the in-product disclosure, you request the accountability features and authorize Prodigal to collect, use, store, and disclose the categories of information described in Section 3, the Privacy Policy, and the Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy for the stated accountability purpose. You direct us to make the disclosed information available to the partners you invite after they accept. General acceptance of these Terms does not replace a specific consent required by applicable privacy law, and posting revised Terms does not retroactively authorize additional processing.
Accountability collection and partner sharing are essential parts of the same paid service. To stop accountability immediately, use “Delete account” in your account settings. This ends billing, revokes connected devices and partner access, and deletes your account, stored accountability activity, and reports. You may also contact accountability@prodigal.org to withdraw consent or exercise applicable privacy rights. There is no separate setting to stop all partner sharing while keeping the accountability subscription. If you schedule subscription cancellation for the end of a paid period through the secure billing portal, service and processing continue until that date.
Removing a partner immediately ends that partner’s access and deletes that relationship’s stored summary. We also delete the report history that partner could access, except for history another active partner still needs. This applies when a partner steps down or deletes their account. Shared records remain subject to the ordinary retention limits. Cleanup is queued for automatic retry if it cannot finish immediately. Current device status and ongoing protection interruptions may remain while needed to operate the service. Already-delivered emails and copies independently held by partners cannot be recalled; applicable deletion rights and recipient obligations still apply.
The monitored user’s product interface does not display the partner activity feed. That product choice does not limit any access, deletion, or other privacy right that applicable law gives the monitored user.
8. Paid subscriptions, automatic renewal, and cancellation
8.1 Plans and recurring charges
Monthly and annual prices are displayed before purchase. Unless stated otherwise at checkout, a paid subscription automatically renews for successive periods equal to the selected billing interval until canceled. By subscribing, you authorize Stripe, our payment processor, to charge the payment method you provide at the beginning of each renewal period, plus any applicable taxes.
Before purchase, checkout will disclose the price, billing interval, automatic renewal terms, and how to cancel. You must affirmatively agree before you are charged. Billing begins when the purchase is completed and is not conditioned on installing or connecting an extension, inviting or activating a partner, or the proceed feature becoming available.
8.2 Price changes
We may change subscription prices prospectively. We will provide any notice required by law before a change applies to an existing subscription. If you do not agree to a future price, cancel before the next renewal date.
8.3 Cancellation
You can manage or cancel subscription renewal through the secure billing-management portal. If cancellation is scheduled for the end of the paid period, accountability continues until that effective date, when collection and sharing end and accountability records are scheduled for deletion. Use “Delete account” to end service and remove the account and its reports immediately. Account deletion does not automatically refund past payments; Section 8.4 and any mandatory legal rights apply. Uninstalling, disconnecting one browser, removing one partner, or failing to complete setup does not by itself cancel billing.
8.4 Refunds
Except where required by law or expressly stated at purchase, payments are non-refundable and we do not provide prorated refunds or credits for partial billing periods.
8.5 Failed payments and end of access
Payment failure, expiration, cancellation, chargeback, or termination may suspend or end paid features. When paid monitoring ends or a browser stops reporting, active partners may receive a status notice if that notification feature is enabled and functioning. When a user permanently deletes an account, we attempt to send transactional notices to the deleting user, current invited or accepted partners, and monitored users who lose the deleting person as their partner. These notices state that the relationship ended and do not contain activity details. Email delivery cannot be guaranteed.
Authenticated account deletion is intended to cancel billing, revoke connected browser credentials, end partner relationships, delete the authentication account, flagged activity, and stored accountability reports, and remove other account data not subject to a legal, fraud-prevention, payment, tax, security, dispute, or backup-retention exception. Account deletion is permanent and differs from canceling renewal or disconnecting a browser.
9. Acceptable use
You may not:
- use the Service contrary to Section 2.2;
- install it on a device or browser profile you do not own or lawfully control;
- access or attempt to access another person’s account, data, or partner feed;
- interfere with security, authentication, billing, event reporting, or technical restrictions;
- use automated means to overload, scrape, probe, or attack the Service;
- introduce malicious code or use the Service to facilitate unlawful conduct;
- impersonate another person or misrepresent your relationship to an invited partner;
- use invitations or disclosed activity to harass, threaten, shame, exploit, or discriminate; or
- use the Service in a manner that violates another person’s privacy, communications, computer-access, employment, or other legal rights.
Nothing in these Terms restricts rights that cannot lawfully be restricted, including rights to engage in security research or reverse engineering where applicable law expressly permits it.
10. Intellectual property and feedback
Prodigal and its licensors own the Service, including its software, design, branding, text, and other materials, except for third-party materials and Scripture quotations used under applicable permissions. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to use the Service for personal, noncommercial use.
If you submit feedback, you grant us a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free right to use it without identifying you or paying compensation, provided we handle any personal information in accordance with the Privacy Policy.
11. Third-party services and links
The Service depends on third parties such as browser platforms, hosting and database providers, authentication providers, email delivery services, and payment processors. Their terms and privacy practices may also apply to their services. Prodigal does not control third-party websites that the extension blocks, allows, or links to.
Google, Chrome, Edge, Microsoft, Stripe, and other third parties do not sponsor or endorse Undeterred merely because the Service interoperates with their products.
12. Service updates, availability, and termination
We may update, add, remove, suspend, or discontinue features, including block lists and compatibility with particular browsers. We will provide reasonable notice when a change materially reduces an active paid subscription, unless immediate action is reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, or a third-party platform requirement.
You may stop using the free Service at any time and may cancel paid service as described in Section 8. You may request account deletion separately as described in Section 8.5 and the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate access for violation of these Terms, fraud, security risk, nonpayment, legal requirements, or discontinuation of the Service.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including Sections 6.3, 10, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, and 19.
13. Disclaimers
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” PRODIGAL DISCLAIMS ALL EXPRESS, IMPLIED, AND STATUTORY WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, AND QUIET ENJOYMENT.
WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BLOCK OR REPORT ALL CONTENT, AVOID ALL FALSE POSITIVES, OPERATE WITHOUT INTERRUPTION OR ERROR, PREVENT CIRCUMVENTION, OR PRODUCE COMPLETE OR ACCURATE ACCOUNTABILITY INFORMATION. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN WARRANTY DISCLAIMERS, SO SOME OF THESE DISCLAIMERS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
14. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PRODIGAL AND ITS DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, VOLUNTEERS, CONTRACTORS, AND LICENSORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OPPORTUNITY, ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE.
THIS INCLUDES CLAIMS RELATING TO CONTENT THAT WAS OR WAS NOT BLOCKED; A FALSE POSITIVE OR FALSE NEGATIVE; A REPORT OR NOTIFICATION THAT WAS SENT, DELAYED, OR NOT SENT; CIRCUMVENTION OR DISABLING OF THE SERVICE; RELIANCE ON ACCOUNTABILITY INFORMATION; OR AN ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER’S CONDUCT.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PRODIGAL’S TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) $100 OR (B) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO PRODIGAL FOR THE SERVICE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM.
THESE LIMITATIONS DO NOT APPLY TO LIABILITY THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE EXCLUDED OR LIMITED. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF THESE LIMITATIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
15. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Prodigal and its directors, officers, employees, volunteers, and contractors from third-party claims, damages, losses, and reasonable costs arising from your unlawful or unauthorized use of the Service, your covert or nonconsensual monitoring of another person, your misuse of partner information, or your material violation of these Terms.
This section does not require a consumer to indemnify Prodigal for Prodigal’s own negligence, willful misconduct, or violation of law.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we will provide reasonable advance notice by email, through the Service, or by another appropriate method. If law requires renewed consent, we will request it. Changes apply prospectively from their stated effective date. Your continued use after that date constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.
17. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles, except that mandatory consumer protections in your state of residence continue to apply.
Before filing a legal claim, you and Prodigal agree to send a written notice describing the dispute and requested resolution and to allow 30 days for a good-faith informal resolution, unless immediate relief is reasonably necessary. Notices to Prodigal must be sent to accountability@prodigal.org.
Subject to applicable law, any judicial proceeding will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Travis County, Texas, and each party consents to their jurisdiction. This provision does not prevent either party from bringing an eligible individual action in small-claims court or seeking injunctive relief for misuse of intellectual property, credentials, or data.
18. Electronic communications
You agree that we may provide agreements, notices, receipts, subscription communications, partner invitations, partner acceptance, decline, removal, or withdrawal notices, security alerts, and accountability notifications electronically. You may withdraw consent to nonessential email where an unsubscribe option is provided, but operational emails necessary to an active account or requested accountability relationship may continue.
19. General terms
These Terms, together with the policies and disclosures expressly incorporated by reference, constitute the entire agreement regarding the Service and supersede prior or contemporaneous statements about it. If a provision is unenforceable, it will be modified only to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will remain in effect. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent; we may assign them in connection with a reorganization, merger, or transfer of the Service, subject to applicable privacy law. We are not liable for delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
Headings are for convenience only. “Including” means “including without limitation.”
